The emergence of technical advancements has transformed the way the body activates, composes and diffuses its presence. Every aspect of life is a performance of an undefined and continuous spectacle. There is no clear distinction between the producer and her product. The role of the author is diffused and the role of the DJ becomes the paradigm for the generations that meet inside clubs, in huge music festivals and spend much of their time in airports, in constant transit, targeting an alternative form of work or even no work; looking for something exciting, fast, vibrant.
It is evident that the dematerialization of the means of musical production has transformed our cultural landscape. For my work, music is method and operation. The music industry and its agents with the use of countless tools – re-mixing, sampling, copy and pasting, designing, becoming the model, giving service for, arranging and sometimes turning into the catalyst for any sort of different operations – set ways to think of performance art today.
Included and excluded from all kinds of physical and virtual environments, we are required to constantly recreate our identities and their characteristics. The character, then, cannot exist if there isn’t a performance strong enough to define its purpose. The apparatus - architectures, plans, transportations, transmissions, communications, technologies, gadgets, any software of any sort, translations upon reproductions and re-translations - defines our perception, accumulation, and interaction. Rhythms create groups and define structures. Dances operate in fields of constant flux, which when inside and outside interweave. Social gathering is not bound by any tradition. Relations are not created through ideological frames. Acts turn into traces, layers of history and media fragments. Gestures develop and transform into new sources, materials, and waves.
My attempt is to observe, listen and score those manifestations and present them in space. We are part of the movies we create, the advertisements that promote our subjectivities, and the images of our own. Information is like Prozac, a comfort tool, which makes us functional, and gives us chances to participate.
