Exhibition “Literati”
03.12.2011-5.02.2012
State Museum of Contemporary Art-Thessaloniki / Greece
The Stella Art Foundation will present the new project “Literati” from 3 December 2011 to 5 February 2012 at the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki (Greece), exhibiting installations by Andrei Filippov, Yuri Albert and Konstantin Zvezdochetov. The exhibition is part of the guest events programme of the 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art and has been organized in association with the State Museum of Contemporary Art (Costakis Collection) and has been supported by the Orthodox Academy of Crete and the Pia Hadjinikou-Angelini Cultural Foundation.
The artists visited the Orthodox Academy of Crete and the Greek village of Horto in 2010-2011. Cooperation with the Orthodox Academy of Crete, where Andrei Filippov and Yuri Albert spent time, represents a ground-breaking attempt at philosophical dialogue with Orthodoxy, which is such an important part of the Greek sensibility and world view. The village of Horto, visited by Konstantin Zvezdochetov, is a unique place in Greece. For thirty years it has hosted cultural projects organized by the Pia Hadjinikou-Angelini Cultural Foundation, which focus particularly on the inter-disciplinary relationships between music, theatre, dance and visual art.
The “Literati” exhibition project is the outcome of journeys by Russian artists to Greece and their contacts with its culture. The artists have created works that make connections with Greek sources while remaining true to their own natural ideology and essence, based on the artistic traditions of the Moscow Conceptual School.
The exhibition “Literati” is part of the guest events programme of the 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art (general title: “Old Intersections-Make it New”, duration: 18.09-18.12.2011) which is organized by the museums-members of the “5 Museums Movement in Thessaloniki” (Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, Museum of Byzantine Culture, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, State Museum of Contemporary Art, Teloglion Foundation of Art AUTH). The 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art is funded under the Operational Programme Macedonia-Thrace 20-07-2013 of NSRF, implemented by the State Museum of Contemporary Art and is part of the “Thessaloniki: Cultural Crossroads” programme by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism, focusing on Middle East on 2011. The project is co-financed by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund).
